Course Description :

Role and significance of money and credit in the economic system; financial system and financial markets; role of interest rates in the financial system; commercial banks and money supply; central bank and use of monetary policy influencing economic activities; significance of money in international trade and international payments; role of commercial banks.

What to expect?

In the first part, various issues related to financial institutions and financial markets are explored. Topics include, for example, measuring interest rates, interest rate risk, risk and term structure of interest rates.

The second part focuses on monetary policy tools and strategies, as well as the links between the financial sector and the central bank. Relevant theories and practical applications are introduced during the lectures. The lectures are complemented by group assignments that focus on current issues (in-class presentation and paper).
