Process of conducting specific economic research; topic selection; literature search and review; understanding and selecting appropriate research methods; formulating and testing hypothesis; report writing technique; presentation technique.

What to expect?

This course is an introduction to the process of conducting research in economics. It equips students with essential skills and knowledge needed for successfully completing an original piece of research such as a Senior Research paper. The first part covers the entire research journey. Examples of topics covered include: Formulating a research question, Doing a literature review, Handling citations and references, Recognizing and avoiding plagiarism, Using quantitative methods properly such as avoiding confounding, interpreting and writing statistical/econometric models; Using qualitative methods in research. In the second part, faculty members from various fields share their own experiences in doing economic research.
